About us

'A Brush with Suffolk' was conceived by David Porteous-Butler and I after a rather enjoyable lunch in a fine Suffolk hostelry.

The conversation quickly turned to how much of an inspiration Suffolk has been to artists through time and how that remains so today. David, himself a very fine artist (as he pointed out several times during the repast), waxed lyrical about the talent in and around the region and what a wealth of creative work was being produced.

'It should be shared more widely' he said 'there are works and artists that we should help give more profile to. It would be bloody good fun doing it too!'

After a few more glasses of something red he said 'so why don't we do it?'

'Do what?' I said.

'Do something that promotes the work inspired by this wonderful place' he exclaimed, draining his glass once more.

And so 'A Brush with Suffolk' was born. The rest is not yet history, but certainly the beginning of what is proving to be an enjoyable adventure. Our first exhibition, 'A Brush with Suffolk' was held in 2007.

Our next exhibition will be in November this year (2008) and will celebrate the works of some of East Anglia's leading artists. The exhibition is titled 'The Artist in our Midst' and will be held at the Peter Pear's gallery in Aldeburgh from 15th to 23rd November.
