Julia Cake:
Julia is a distinguished sculptress (formerly known by her maiden name, Julia Levy).
At the age of 16 she enrolled into the famous Beaux Art academy in France and found an outlet for her overwhelming artistic flair in the three dimensional world of sculpting.
Her very first clay piece, 'Trois Elephants' was judged 2 nd place at an exhibition in Cannes.
She was just 17 year of age when working with marble really inflamed her passion for her art. Born in Monaco and growing up in the French Riviera, Julia was able to drive into Italy to hand pick the most beautiful pieces of naturally formed stone to work with. As well as working with her own vision for the subject, she finds inspiration in the stone itself, working with the colours and contours, the shape and texture to create unique original pieces.
This intuitive, inspirational talent distinguishes Julia's work.
She followed with exhibitions in Nice, Toulon, Paris, Cannes and Monaco. There was by now a growing band of collectors of her work which is to be found in collections in the US and around Europe.
She declined opportunities to produce work exclusively for leading galleries as she preferred to maintain her independence. In 1994 she unveiled a monument to World Peace in Cannes, in front of an audience of international ministerial delegates.
She went on to replicate the monument in Washington and other major cities around the world.
Even greater international success was bound to follow but an obligation to support her father in his business took her away from her art for a frustrating 9 years. During this time she had to decline commissions and other opportunities to exhibit.
The turning point for Julia came in 2005 when, after getting married, she was free to pursue her passion once more. She settled in Norfolk and is producing beautiful works once again, now in a variety of stones and bronze.
Collectors of Julia's earlier works will see reborn, the vitality and technical mastery they admired. For those collectors who have yet to witness the unique originality of her work - it will have been worth the wait.
