Sarah Hyde:
Born in 1965 in Northamptonshire, life has been a richness of expressive freedom and creativity for Sarah.
Couple her creative energy with exceptional technical capability (she spent four years under the tutelage of her father, the internationally respected landscape artist David Hyde and then went on to graduate with a BA with Hons in fine art) and the result is an artist capable of producing the most extraordinarily potent work.
Once described as ‘luxurious jewels of energy and colour’ her paintings display superior draughtsmanship and a use of colour that can be compared with the great classical and contemporary artists.
Her work has always shown masterful execution and has been characterised by both honesty and imagination.
Fantasy has always played a part in Sarah’s work as a means of explaining and depicting her subjects and thoughts as they are to her in the real world – as an expression of the truth. That means she is able to represent the full force of the energies of her subjects, whilst absolutely controlling the creation of the work. Therein lies a fascinating tension that underpins her great pieces.
Depicting the energies of the subjects on canvas or as sculpture means that to view Sarah’s work is to feel the full and natural force of the subject.
This applies not just to her erotic pieces for which she achieved some fame and commercial success (including significant media profile here and in Europe), but also most definitely to her portraits and figurative works.
It is little wonder that Sarah was discovered by serious collectors several years ago. She has been exhibiting extensively since 1991 in the UK and has also exhibited in Canada and New York.
She settled in Suffolk in 2000 and her studio is hidden away deep in the countryside where Sarah has now returned to painting after a short break following the birth of her son. Her latest works show all the potency and technical ability of her earlier creations and her Suffolk work is uniquely engaging and energising. Genuinely work to enjoy.
