Susan Lui :
Susan first took an interest in photography as a means of expressing her creative talent some five years ago.
The digital age provided her with the medium she was looking for to interpret and express her impressions of places and people close to her.
Two exhibitions for the Sudbury History Society led to a number of her pictures appearing in Barry Wall's recent book 'Sudbury History and Guide'. Other local projects include work for her local museum which required a number of pictures which represented historical landmarks in the area. This then led to a further exhibition called 'Visions of Sudbury'.
As a result of this initial success Susan became more experimental with her photography, drawing images together that others might not have noticed.
Her new creative approach led to her solo exhibition at the Quay Theatre in Sudbury which focused on 'Reflections'. This successfully showcased her new ideas and methods.
In 2006 she joined Suffolk Open Studios whose annual Exhibition brings together local artists. The exhibition was successful for her and she went to be a part of two further exhibitions in Stowhealth and Stowmarket.
In September 2006 Susan, showed work in an Exhibition called 'Alluring Women' and went on to show at the Great Art Fair, Alexandra Place London.
2008 has seen Susan use her life drawings as the basis for her prints. She works at length at her drawings using fine pens and then transfers them to digital files. She then manipulates these images to create stunning representations of the human form. At once true to their source and stylised to Susan's unique vision, the images seem to possess a primeval quality. They have a powerful, earthly feel and a seemingly primitive potency.
Susan lives and works in Suffolk.
